the film society has tentative plans to screen a halloween movie at the end of this month. with all of the days off this month, it seems like the society hasn't gotten too many chances to meet and have events, but things should really start rolling. we think a horror movie is a great way to start what will be a staple in the film building, that is...screenings!
expect to see announcements every week about movies on the big screen in WEB. suggestions are always encouraged. we're happy to track down hard to find stuff, as well. think about what you would like to see on the big screen. no more trying to watch mizoguchi flicks on the ipod!
back to the task at hand: what should we watch?
argento's Suspiria comes to mind. it's stylish, bloody, and just plain well done, by most standards. plus, it would make for interesting chatter on the board.
other stuff i've thought about: hour of the wolf, sleepaway camp, halloween, the shining...
we'll take an informal vote at the next meeting (oct.21).
beatrice has some good ideas on what we should watch, and good reasons for why. i'm sure she will post soon.
what do YOU think?

Weeeell, the following films are available in the film department's library: - The Blair Witch Project (DVD and VHS)
- The Shining (Laser disc)
- Dracula (DVD)
- Frankenstein (DVD)
- Night of the Living Dead (VHS)
- Nosferatu (Laser disc)
- Rosemary's Baby (DVD)
- Scream (VHS)
- Shadow of the Vampire (DVD)
- Sixth Sense (DVD)
- The Bride of Frankenstein (Laserdisc)
- The Haunting (VHS)
- The Innocents (VHS)
- The Silence of the Lambs (Laserdisc)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (DVD)
- Tons of Alfred Hitchcock movies
Personally I think it would be interesting to watch something relatively recent (within the last 30 years) so it's actually kind of scary. Also I think it would be interesting to watch The Blair Witch Project since it's about film students messing up... and that's always terrifying. Go ahead and suggest other movies, though. We can vote on it later once we have enough good ideas.

Also I think we should bring food for extra Halloween fun. I can bake brownies.

treats! yes! maybe we should watch charlie brown and the great pumpkin. i saw it recently, and it's still awesome. it's not very long, so we can possibly just watch it as a starter.

I've never actually watched Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin, so that might be cool. I wonder when we'll actually do the screening though? I doubt a lot of people would want to come ON Halloween, since people usually have plans for that day. (I don't know if I want to be in school that day.)

at the risk of sounding pretentious/dated the scariest movies I know of are Carnival of Souls (not the Wes Craven one) and Eyes Without a Face. I ditto the food/snacks motion and second the idea of watching Charlie Brown and The Great Pumpkin.

jacob, welcome. hour of the wolf has already been suggested, so no need to feel pretentious. both of your suggestions are, i think, good ones. we'll narrow some stuff down soon, and then vote. we have to find some of these movies. as beatrice posted earlier, brooklyn college has only some of the films mentioned. however, we are open to buying more. we can always borrow/rent as well, but i would like to watch the dvd beforehand to make sure there are no skips, etc.

Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin would be an excellent primer. Carnival of Souls is a great suggestion. And I noticed there were Hitchcock movies on the list - Psycho! Scariest movie I ever saw - at the tender of age twelve.

Hollywood, those are all great suggestions! I think we can keep this thread running for a couple of more days and have an actual poll up by the weekend to decide on one movie.

At the end of the meeting Hornsby said Les Diobliques is the shit... I think that's an exact quote. JK.

Looking forward to the Halloween screening
Here are some suggestions:
- Les Diabolique (I'm down for seeing this movie) - John Carpenter's The Thing - The Changeling (Haven't seen it but hear its good.) - Rec ('Quarantine' is a remake of this Spanish film. I haven't seen either of them, but its sounds interesting
