I'm here at the Cannes Film Festival slaving away for the American Pavilion (I'm part of the tech crew so it doesn't feel too different from building a set or lugging around heavy equipment at school ) and waiting to be able to watch a movie! It just started today and mad people are gonna watch Up, which is the opening film. (I'm going to try to avoid watching movies I know I'll watch in America.) I tried to watch a couple of non-competitive movies at the Marche du Film today, but one was full of buyers (so much of this festival is dedicated to marketing and money... important, I guess, but takes away some of the fun) and I couldn't find the place to get tickets for the other movie I wanted to see. I ended up watching a bunch of short student-made films... I have to say, after the stuff I've seen from BC, I am not very impressed. Our dailies look better than their "films". They're all shooting on video. It doesn't even seem to be HD. Anyway, my point is, it makes me very proud (and smug, haha!) to see how these rich kids' movies pale in comparison to what I'm used to back home. I hope to see more movies tomorrow and I hope I have cooler things to report.
